ANSYS HFSS software is the industry-standard simulation tool for 3-D full-wave electromagnetic field simulation and is essential for the design of high-frequency and high-speed component design. HFSS offers multiple state-of the-art solver technologies based on either the proven finite element method or the well-established integral equation method. ANSYS HFSS SBR+ or ANSYS Savant is the industry leading tool for simulating installed antenna performance on electrically large platforms, including the applications of predicting installed radiation patterns, field distributions, and antenna-to- antenna coupling. Savant simulations are configured through an intuitive and powerful graphical user interface (GUI) capable of importing and simulating complex vehicle and platform geometries that may be hundreds to thousands of wavelengths in size. A key element in Savant’s industry-leading status is its unique extensions to the shooting and bouncing rays (SBR) methodology, known as SBR+. Savant is the only commercial electromagnetic software to extend SBR with simultaneously consistent implementations of Physical Theory of Diffraction (PTD), Uniform Theory of Diffraction (UTD), and Creeping Wave to deliver maximum accuracy within a high-performance ray-tracing framework for large-scale problems. With HFSS, engineers can extract scattering matrix parameters (S, Y, Z parameters), visualize 3-D electromagnetic fields (near- and far-field) and generate ANSYS Full-Wave SPICE models that link to circuit simulations. HFSS offers multiple state-of the-art solver technologies each based on the proven finite element method such as the Frequency Domain Solver, HFSS Transient Solver, HFSS Integral Equation (IE) Solver, Hybrid Finite Element – Integral Equation Method (FE-BI) Solver, Physical Optics Solver, and HFSS Solver on Demand. ANSYS HFSS allows for the calculation of finite arrays that include all electromagnetic effects including elementto-element coupling, and the critical edge effects. This new technology leverages the repeating nature of array geometries and can be used with our HPC capabilities to obtain very fast solution time for large finite arrays.


Laila Salman was born in Baghdad, Iraq, in 1980. She received the B.S. and M.S. degrees in electronics and communication engineering from Cairo University, Giza, Egypt, in 2003 and 2005, respectively, and the PhD. Degree in electromagnetic and antenna design from the University of Mississippi, MS, USA in 2009. She also worked as a post-doctoral student at the Université de Quebec en Outaouais, Gatineau, QC, Canada till 2010. Dr. Salman joined ANSYS Canada Ltd. in August 2010 as a Technical Services Specialist for High Frequency Applications.
